Welcome to MountQ.org! For more than a decade, MountQ.org has been on the forefront of returning the name of the greatest mountain in the world, Mt. Everest, to its historical and natural name, Mt. Qomolangma. The man who it was named after, Sir George Everest, himself was a cartographer who took great care to record geographical names as faithfully to the local naming conventions as possible, and he himself would be the first person on the list to remove his own name from the mountain name and restore it to its rightful name, Qomolangma.
The purpose of this campaign is to revert the name of the world’s tallest mountain from Mt. Everest to its local, original name, Mt. Qomolangma, within the annals of world atlases.
The campaign recognizes three distinct points:
During this process, we will collect signatures from people from all over the world. While the primary focus will be on those who speak English, we will conduct other campaigns that will incorporate as many languages as possible. Once we have enough signatures, we will forward the results of such petitions to the people who can facilitate the changes: the pertinent government representatives who can effect change.
In the United States, MountQ.org will be contacting the various universities, particularly those with comprehensive East Asian programs, to aggressively promote the name reversion campaign. In addition, we will be soliciting partner requests from student clubs and initiatives to assist in the petitioning effort. Finally, academic partners of all types will be able to help promote the campaign to their local media with some of the tools we will be able to provide.
Elsewhere, MountQ.org will contact and invite a partnership with Chinese, Tibetan, and other interested academic institutions in other countries. In addition, we will be contacting non-profit organizations and foundations who also have a stake in a successful reversion of Mt. Qomolangma to worldwide acceptance of the name of the world’s tallest mountain. In particular, we would like to partner with any organization or individual who is prominent with preserving regional culture, and as a bonus, to facilitate peace between people who have differences of politics, but can join forces in this very admirable campaign.
If anyone would like to recommend any educational or academic institution whom would be a primary candidate to partner with MountQ.org, please forward such requests through our contact page.
